Shore Vs. City

By Ryan Hudgins

Shore Vs. City

EDITED BY RYAN HUDGINS / PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBIN SUBAR / MAKEUP & STYLING BY THERESA DEMARIA

SAMANTHA SCHAPS JACOBSON is on a mission to show you just how cool American-made goods are, and how important it is to support and purchase American-made. As a partner to her mother, who opened the Highland Park contemporary design gallery CITYWOODS in 1988 with her father, Jacobson grew up in a world surrounded by art and fine craft. That upbringing, along with her education and keen sense of taste in jewelry, has propelled this mom of one, and soon to be mom of two, into a position of strength when it comes to styling jewels on her clients, or helping them curate their coffee table décor. Jacobson takes a break from a busy day at CITYWOODS to share her go-tos on the shore and in the city.

What’s on the horizon? An expanded website and a new baby Mantra? You’ve got this, you can do this Best grooming tip? Hyaluronic acid serum and really good eye cream—my mom always says, “your skin is your largest organ … treat it well” Guilty pleasure? Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Favorite foods? Greek salad and pasta Music you love? Bossa Nova Jazz for cooking, Chill EDM for driving, Country for summertime Best advice ever given to you? Why do today what you can do tomorrow? Drink mint tea with a splash of cream and pray What’s on your bookshelf? Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss, and a selection of my son’s favorite books by Sandra Boynton for his bedtime routine You can’t live without? My Nespresso machine, extra-large bottles of water, manicures, and my family Love to escape to? La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, or Cabo if we’re leaving the country Advice you would give to your younger self? Stay focused but have fun

Schools, parks, beach, and living so close to my mom Worst thing about the Shore? Not enough restaurants The perfect day is?
