Shore Vs. City

Emily Perlberg wearing faux leather eggplant dress by Ted Baker, The Lake Forest Shop, 847-234-0548 PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBIN SUBAR / STYLING BY THERESA DEMARIA AND EMILY PERLBERG

Wardrobe stylist and Glencoe resident Emily Perlberg has a unique knack for shopping and style, often in her clients’ own closets. Great taste and a keen eye allow her to make new what was once old, and to shop for a mix of high- and low- priced pieces to curate perfect outfits for each client’s needs. For style tips and trends to make fashion fun, not glum, follow her @emilyperlbergstyle. Perlberg steps away from the closet to share her city and shore favorites with Sheridan Road.

What’s on the horizon? It is an important time to be comfortable and to feel good. By way of FaceTime or Zoom, I can virtually ‘comb’ through clients’ closets, helping them to purge, tighten, and re-purpose already-owned pieces. Our new norm has left us with the need to re-prioritize our wardrobes. The ‘less is more’ motto rings more true now as our excursions have lessened and our choice for low-maintenance and practical wear is now paramount Mantra? I can and I will Best grooming tip? Eight hours of sleep Guilty pleasure? Instagram Favorite foods? Pizza, all shapes and sizes Music you love? The kind you can sing along with Best advice ever given to you? You need to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart Best advice you’ve given? Lead by example Earliest memory? My love of fashion forming while playing dress-up in my mom’s much-too-large heels and hand-me-down gowns When you wake up, you? Have a cup of coffee and enjoy the quiet, before all the noise of my three sons Before bed, you? Tell everyone in my family goodnight (never goodbye), and I love them What’s on your bookshelf? A.J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window You can’t live without? Terlato Pinot Grigio Love to escape to? Punta Mita Advice you would give to your younger self? Nothing worthwhile comes easy

ON THE SHORE

Your style is? Practical, yet playful (my outfit generally includes a stripe of some sort and fashionable sneakers) Can’t leave the house without? My outfit-coordinated mask Transportation? My three-row SUV (generally with kids and sports equipment in tow) Driving music? My book on Audible Place to eat? Abigail’s Shop? Local, love supporting my fellow neighbors and shop owners/friends Best thing about the Shore? The community atmosphere Worst thing about the Shore? Scarcity of trendy, creative restaurants The perfect day is? A morning run, an afternoon triple-header (my boys’), and a quiet evening with my husband

IN THE CITY

Your style is? Urban sophistication, with an edge (I generally opt for leather and block-heeled boots for walking) Can’t leave the house without? A fully-charged phone, equipped with Waze and ParkChicago app Transportation? My three-row SUV Driving music? None, as I catch up on calls because I am finally without interruption Place to eat? Spiaggia (fond memories of my post-engagement celebration and my pre-nuptial dinner) Shop? Jayson Home Best thing about the City? Its architectural significance and shoreline beauty Worst thing about the City? Traffic The perfect day is? A cut/color at Michael & Michael and a meal at a trendy, new restaurant
