What is the most important characteristic of an effective leader? Mindfulness. Being aware, fully present, fully engaged, and accepting, with an open mind and compassion, creates a strong, healthy, and successful personal and professional life. You simply can’t be effective without being mindful.

What meaningful lesson did you learn in your first job? My first job was at my dad’s fruit market on Randolph Street in the West Loop. With other employees, I had to fill brown paper bags with fruits and vegetables. Although I was the boss’s daughter, he said I had to start at the bottom and learn everything possible about a business before I could become a boss. And I did!

Who is your role model or mentor and why? Firstly, my dad is my role model. He emigrated to the United States from Greece and had a love and passion of being an entrepreneur coupled with a determination and strong work ethic that I admired. His secret to success was being a friend to his customers and it really taught me how relationships with people are the secret to building a successful business. Secondly, my clients continue to inspire and mentor me with their dedication to living their best life in all areas—family, career, faith, and self-care. It pushes and inspires me to bring out the best in them as well.
