Personal Touch

There was a year when Chris Pequet sold both the most expensive and the least expensive homes in Hinsdale. Pequet, a top-selling agent with Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty in Hinsdale, doesn’t remember the year, but it’s indicative of how she approaches her real estate business.
“My specialty is just providing the service that I do. I work with people who are selling their great big home or have found a great big home in town and now they’re helping their children who are just getting started,” says Pequet. “It might be a different price range or in a suburb that is more economical, but I just want to provide the best service.”
Pequet often receives referrals from parents, friends and family members and takes pride in establishing and continuing relationships that last. She works with many transferees who, in turn, hire others coming to the area for work. It’s like a professional family tree.
“I go across all generations and income levels and provide superior service so that clients feel good about having me help their family and friends,” says Pequet.
Pequet grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and met her husband at Michigan State. She moved with her husband to Chicago soon after she graduated and after starting out selling pharmaceuticals and paper products, a friend convinced her she’d be adept at selling real estate.
“I had a girlfriend who owned a real estate company and she was always telling me I should get my license. Sales is sales but the real estate business becomes so personal. It’s such a personal decision to buy a house, often people’s biggest investment,” she says. “It means a lot to people so it’s very exciting to have people find their perfect home, whether their sizing up or sizing down.”
Pequet feels fortunate to be working in Hinsdale and the surrounding community, where she’s been an agent for more than 30 years.
“Hinsdale is a great community and a great place to be in the real estate business,” she says. “The schools are so good. The community almost sells itself.”
Pequet’s commitment to her clients extends to ensuring she can provide her full attention to each of her listings. She’s not interested in being the biggest agent, just the best.
“I don’t need to have the most listings because I want to maintain a personal touch. I put a limit on how many active listings I have and how many active buyers I work with,” says Pequet. “I know what it’s like when you get too many. All I’m doing is trying to give everyone the best service. I’ve never tried to be something I’m not.”
For nearly 30 years in Hinsdale, it’s been a winning recipe.
