Former college tennis player and corporate retail professional LISA KAHLEY, was always in search of a one-stop-shop to find stylish, yet functional activewear. After her search to no avail, she decided to put her skin in the game and set the competition straight opening Game Set, LLC—a studio and e-commerce store—in 2018. She curates women’s activewear for everything from golf and racquet sports to studio workouts to athleisure.

What’s the greatest risk you’ve taken as a professional? The greatest risk was taking the leap to start Game Set. While there were many aspects of retail that I understood from my corporate retail career, there were many I had never been exposed to. Taking the risk of starting something that involves a completely new set of skills was scary, but it has also been one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional journey.

What meaningful lesson did you learn in your first job? In order to be successful in business, you have to deliver exceptional customer service. I always think about how the decisions I make are providing value to Game Set clients.

What was a pivotal moment in your career? Definitely when the pandemic hit. Most of my sales were done in person, but when the world shut down, we needed to move quickly to focus on online business. We not only enhanced the website, but developed new sales channels, including a try-before-you-buy service, local porch delivery, and partnering with stylists that supported this new model. Despite the challenges, Game Set was able to succeed and even grow during that time.
