KAREN M. SCHETZ
PARTNER
STEINER HOWETH PASQUESI LTD.
Karen M. Schetz, a partner with Steiner Howeth Pasquesi Ltd. (SHP), is committed to serving her clients during what is often the most stressful event in their lives. Schetz handles cases both in and out of the courtroom depending on the nature of the case and parties. “Marital resources can be preserved and conflict reduced via alternative dispute resolution such as mediation. However, I also have extensive courtroom experience and will take cases to litigation when an opposing spouse is being unreasonable or the circumstances otherwise warrant court intervention to serve my clients’ best interests,” says Schetz. Schetz, who has a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and her juris doctorate from DePaul University College of Law, has been practicing matrimonial law for nearly 20 years.
For the majority of that time, Schetz worked for one of the nation’s largest matrimonial law firms, prior to joining SHP. “During my lengthy career in family law, I have worked on complex cases and gained unparallelled experience in all aspects of divorce and post-divorce matters—from the division and characterization of assets, tracing of assets, income analyses, sophisticated support issues for families with substantial lifestyles, and resolving high conflict parenting disputes,” she adds. “I am also highly experienced with drafting prenuptial and postnuptial agreements including for prominent and high wealth families.”
If she could change anything about the legal system, Schetz says there would be less crowded court calendars and less wait time for substantive court proceedings. “In my cases, we are dealing with individuals—their finances, their children, their futures. There is often fear of the unknown as they go through this process and they want prompt answers, results and resolution.” Schetz works tirelessly to meet these goals for her clients. “My clients are important to me and one of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing their relief and appreciation when they make it to the other side of this life changing event, and knowing I worked to achieve the best result possible for them.” Schetz handles family law cases in Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties.
