Dr. Michael Alebich is a board-certified internal medicine physician at Authentic Internal Medicine with more than a decade of experience in both outpatient and inpatient medicine. He brings a highly relationship-centered approach to care, shaped by years at major teaching hospitals including Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident and later as attending physician.

What’s the best part of what you do—and what surprises people about it?
Relationship building. I got into medicine to help people, and I’ve found that in order to truly help, you have to know the person—not just their medical history, but their family, work, habits, and goals. That relationship allows me to treat the patient as a person, not a textbook case.

What moment or challenge shaped you more than any title or achievement?
Becoming a father. Once your primary responsibility shifts from caring for yourself to caring for your child, you are no longer the same person.

What’s a habit or mindset that keeps you sharp?
Curiosity. The more we know, the more we realize what we don’t know. Medicine evolves constantly, so continuous learning and self-appraisal are essential.

What’s a piece of advice you actually follow—not just give?
Put your phone down when you are socializing with family or friends. Human connection happens when you’re connecting with real humans.
