There’s no time like December. Between the parties and dinners, teas and pageants, the month passes by in a wink. Enter Jingle Dash, offering a morning of fresh air, family time, and precious hours to get in those steps someplace other than the shops.
For the third year, Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club (HJWC) is hosting the Jingle Dash 5K presented by Wellbeing Therapist on Sunday, December 10. Last year 250 runners participated. The hope is that at least 300 will lace up their running shoes this year.
“We are thrilled to be bringing back the Jingle Dash 5K presented by Wellbeing Therapist for the third year in a row. Each year the event gets bigger and better, and we are so excited to get the community out to Robbins Park to get into the holiday spirit and help raise money for the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club,” says HJWC President, Lauren Glandt.
She continues, “For the first time, we are excited to have a partner and marquee sponsor, Wellbeing Therapist, headlining and supporting the event, along with some other wonderful sponsors like Burn Bootcamp and Therapeutic Health who support our organization and its mission.” Having sponsors that believe in mental and physical health is a great partnership for the Jingle Dash.”
The event is helmed by the group’s Health Committee in partnership with the Benefit Committee. This dynamic team has arranged for Santa and Mrs. Claus to attend along with locals. The famous pair will pose for photos at the end of the race route while runners revive with hot chocolate.
Registration is open until December 9, and even if the family calendar is feeling packed, making time to get out and walk is good for everyone. Anne Appel, founder and owner of Wellbeing Therapist and Hinsdale resident, shares, “I am honored to help support the wonderful community of Hinsdale by sponsoring the Jingle Dash. The event is a great opportunity to get together, support each other, and focus on fitness as we kick off the holiday season.”
Festive gear is encouraged, and the emphasis will be on making spirits bright. That’s true in more than one way as Jingle Dash will raise funds for the worthy organizations selected for HJWC grants this year. In 2018, HJWC launched a Grant Fundraising model to help fund tangible items with a lasting impact for deserving organizations. The club has since raised $1.4 million dollars for non-profit organizations in Chicagoland and the Western Suburbs.
Each year they provide an average of 20 grants valued between $1-$50,000 to organizations serving women and children. Grant money is awarded to organizations with needs for items and projects that can be used for many years to come. Vans, playgrounds, and building maintenance needs are examples of improvements made possible by the grants.
Jingle Dash is December 10 from 8 – 11 a.m. at Robbins Park. Adults, $40, kids, $20, no cost for strollers. hjwc.us
