LESLIE BOWMAN has been designing her own life for a long time. It just took a while to pursue her dream of becoming an interior designer. She established her first career as a CPA, which she continued for some time as a single mother to her young children. “As a single mom, I quickly learned that failure was not an option and to not worry about things I could not control,” she says. “Because of that, I was able to pursue my dream and a new career.” Bowman envisioned a place where one could design, build, and decorate their home effortlessly, all under one roof—a welcoming place that offers a one-of-a-kind experience for clients. The Design Bar, with its 7,000 square foot showroom in Burr Ridge, does just that with Bowman at the helm as Design Director. “I would not be where I am today without the support I get from my clients, vendors, and staff, and most of all, my husband who works alongside me every day. I am grateful that they all believed in me way before I believed in myself.” Bowman wants to encourage both new and repeat clients to shop local. “This past year and half has been difficult for retail brick and mortar stores nationwide, and it’s more important now to think of us and other local retailers when looking for distinctive gifts, furnishings, décor, and one-of-a-kind holiday items.
