Today’s health care system certainly is not what it used to be. As physicians who have been in practice for nearly two decades, we have seen how much the medical system has changed just since we entered medical school. We have the privilege of receiving and delivering care in a nation robust with technological and innovative advances, research institutions, and access to renowned specialists. With that, however, comes many drawbacks that have altered the landscape of today’s health care system such as higher costs, administrative complexity, and uniform access to care.

Patients’ standards have evolved too. Modern patients are more informed and have higher expectations from their health care experience. Despite improving digital literacy, they desire more personalized care just like the good old days when their doctor was able to spend time necessary to explain test results, describe next steps, and answer questions. This is the number one thing we hear from patients we meet in the hospital—that they just don’t have enough time with their doctors anymore. Unavoidable constraints felt by today’s physicians to meet administrative regulations and metrics just to keep their doors open, takes time away from patient interactions. This leads to miscommunication, frustration, distrust, and an overall fragmentation in a patient’s care.

Naturally, as physicians we became keenly familiar with these issues in our clinical work. Yet, as daughters, mothers, sisters, neighbors, and friends we would often find ourselves playing the role of the doctor in the family by helping our own to navigate through these same complexities. Even at home and away from the bedside we were personally witnessing the gaps in today’s health care system. We began to ask ourselves what we could do to change it for everyone, not just our own family. That is where Doctor Daughters was born.

We provide a unique and elevated physician consultation experience to people of all ages from the simplest to the most medically complex. We have helped clients organize all their medical history into a customized MedFolio™️, streamlining pertinent data into one easy-to-find place. This empowers clients with the ability to see, understand, and make sense of their medical care. It also allows a client to present all of their data to a new physician or specialist circumventing the insufficiency, redundancy, and unreliability of electronic health records. We offer personalized education regarding medications, medical conditions, and new diagnoses. We assist clients in preparation for doctor’s appointments so they know what questions to ask their doctor and help interpret the answers they receive. Doctor Daughters is aware that physicians and specialists may not communicate effectively amongst each other during a hospitalization. We are available to collaborate with these physicians and translate their care plans back to you for better understanding of what is occurring. We do not replace your physician, but instead, are their ally and collaborator. Additionally, we offer the same services to college-aged clients and their families who are learning how to be smart health care consumers while away from home for the first time.
