Wings of Hope

CHRISTINA SCALISE-MORRISSEY, MS, CCC-SLP, has always loved children, and her passion is to help them. Her aha moment came while she was a junior accounting major working in the college of education. “My supervisor asked me to deliver something to the speech clinic, and I happened to observe a little kiddo receiving speech therapy,” she says. “I immediately called home to tell my parents I was switching majors … and that I needed a master’s degree for the profession.” After working hard to earn her MS in communicative disorders, and her license as a Certified Speech Language Pathologist and Feeding Specialist, she is fulfilling her dream as founder and CEO of Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies. The multi-disciplinary pediatric therapeutic center has earned the trust of physicians and families for nearly 30 years, providing pediatric speech, feeding, occupational, physical and developmental therapies, along with counseling and a therapeutic preschool for ages 2 to 7. “Often times, we are the first ones a parent will call when they have concerns for their child,” she says. “The most important thing we can do is to listen, give them hope, and assure them that there are many ways we can help their child and family. And, we are proud to announce our new Woodridge location opening in November 2021, with 11,000-square feet of pure fun!” Scalise-Morrissey spends her days at work playing with the kids and getting messy during feeding therapy. She wouldn’t have it any other way.
