Every day is cause for a celebration and no one knows this more than Sherrie Urbaszewski, founder and owner of The Pink Balloon in Barrington.
The Pink Balloon will take your event to that next level, providing custom balloon décor and installations. “We do everything from balloon arches and tablescape décor all the way to grand scale balloon garland installations for all of life’s celebrations. Every time I do an event, I learn something new, and that knowledge helps me push my business to the next level,” says Urbaszewski, who had her fourth child last summer.
After following various balloon and décor companies on Instagram, she realized “Hey, I can totally do this!”
“I’m a former teacher so I have a creative edge. Plus, I’ve always been a party planner, and I grew up with my mom, who is a huge entertainer.”
Fortuitously, just as Urbaszewski was opening her business, her friends were opening Kiddiewinks, the beautiful event space in downtown Barrington. It felt like kismet. Urbaszewski reached out to them and suggested they collaborate. “We’ve grown together since then and it’s been spilling out into the community as well.”
One thing is for certain, while balloon art can be light and fun Urbaszewski takes her business very seriously. She is constantly studying and taking continuing education classes to improve her craft. She gets to know each client and makes sure to personalize the décor accordingly, often going to the event space and creating custom mock-ups. Everything is personalized, whether to match the client’s favorite colors or celebrate a special birthday.
Urbaszewski credits her passion for this business to how she was raised. “My parents always planned big parties that were over the top in terms of detail. I was raised helping my mom at these events and learned how to set a beautiful table-scape and add special touches to the event décor.”
There is not much that can illustrate both Urbaszewski and her family’s fundamental belief in the power of celebration more than the following story.
Celebrating all events, big or small, was basically her family’s mantra while she was growing up. This principle was thrown into high gear when the family received devastating news: Urbaszewski, just 27 years old at the time, was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Even when Urbaszewski was having a stem cell transplant, flowers, balloons and celebration were around to lighten the mood and lift her spirits. And she credits this positivity, along with the constant support of family and friends, as well as outstanding medical care, with her full recovery.
Although The Pink Balloon has really taken off, Urbaszewski is not one to rest on her laurels. She is always researching and coming up with new ways to grow her business. Stay tuned for her upcoming venture of online order processing and parties in a box, yet another way to ensure that the celebrations will never, ever stop.
