The Lake House

ANYONE WHO GREW UP in the North Shore area knows there is nothing quite like a weekend at the proverbial “lake house.” Whether it’s a stream of endless days spent out on the boat or those barefoot nights at the beachfront bar, these are the things that memories are made of.
The event masterminds at Fairmont Chicago (located between Millennium Park and the Magnificent Mile) have tapped into that aesthetic with a new “summer experience” meant to capture the magic of lake living. From now through September 9, the hotel will transform its lobby area to emulate the spirit of Chicago summer on the lake. A recent visit to Fairmont’s version of “The Lake House” affirms the project’s mission to be a “thrilling getaway for those who want to experience the adventure of a lake house in the middle of the city.”
In other words, it’s all pretty cool. The decked-out “boat house” bar (with delicious culinary offerings, leaning heavily toward seafood, naturally) mixes an urban cocktail lounge vibe with beach shack chic for an outing that’s just pure fun. Expect a creative menu of cocktails and spirit-infused concoctions served in low light with a tropical glow. After enjoying signature bites by William Schultz (who’s dishing up everything from pork ribs and beef brisket to an easy peel shrimp boil and platter of lobster, mussels, and clams) do not pass “go” (or go home) without advancing to the Fairmont Arcade.
P.S. – You’re welcome. After all, when was the last time you got to 1. Play darts 2. Shoot Skee-Ball 3. Defeat your coworker in ping pong 4. Hit putt-putt or 5. Turn a pile of building blocks into a fierce match of Jenga? All in one evening. That and more awaits you at The Lake House this summer.
