A storied chapter of Chicago’s cultural history is being reimagined for a new era. The Distelheim Gallery revives the legacy of the original Distelheim Galleries, founded by Chicago dermatologist and art collector Dr. Irving Distelheim, whose Oak Street gallery became a fixture of the city’s art scene in the 1960s.
Today, his daughter, Lisa Distelheim Barron, carries that vision forward with partner and artist Jefferey Cornett. Located in East Pilsen, the gallery pairs an intimate studio experience with a digital-first platform, making contemporary art more accessible to collectors of all levels.
Cornett’s inaugural collection for the gallery, Orange & Black, explores emotion, contrast and resilience through vibrant abstract works that pay tribute to the intellectual heritage of Princeton University, Barron’s alma mater. Every piece is accompanied by the artist’s own narrative, while museum-quality originals, limited editions, boxed tabletop art sets and wearable art offer meaningful ways to experience his work at a variety of price points.
