THE HISTORY CENTER OF LAKE FOREST-LAKE BLUFF PROUDLY SALUTES THE HONORABLE SUSAN GARRETT AS ITS 2021 LOCAL LEGEND.
Lawmaker, Mentor, and Mobilizer. A dedicated lawmaker and pioneer for women in state politics, Susan Garrett is a champion of the environment, health care, education and ethics, and a mentor for women entrepreneurs. Her leadership has continually extended across the aisle, keeping her constituents’ interests close to heart as a public servant extraordinaire.
Garrett, who has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lake Forest College and resides in Lake Forest with her family, was recently interviewed by NBC 5 political editor, award-winning journalist, and good friend Carol Marin. The setting was an intimate interview that encouraged the sharing of little-known stories, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and insights missing from standard biographies. The interview will be shown at the Local Legends fundraiser at the History Center on October 7, and a live Q&A with Garrett will follow. Guests who attend the in-person event will also enjoy cocktails and small bites, time to mingle, the chance to congratulate the honoree in person, and the opportunity to participate in the live Q&A.
Friends, family, and fans of the honoree can record a video congratulatory message to be shown the evening of the event—a meaningful opportunity for people who cannot attend yet want to feel present and supportive. Well wishes and congratulatory notes to Garrett can also be written for inclusion in a keepsake book that will serve as a lovely memento.
As the History Center’s signature fundraiser, Local Legends helps the museum fund educational programming for virtual classrooms from grade 5 through college, expand its innovative programs, and exhibit and preserve its extensive archives. The History Center is the only organization dedicated to collecting both Lake Forest and Lake Bluff history and saving it for future generations.
The 2021 Local Legends fundraiser will take place on Thursday, October 7 at 7 p.m. at the History Center, 509 E. Deerpath Road, and on Zoom. For information on the event, sponsorship opportunities, or to purchase tickets, visit lflbhistory.org.
ELAWA FARM FOUNDATION’S HARVEST DINNER RETURNS.
Elawa Farm Foundation’s annual Harvest Dinner fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 25. This annual benefit, held in the garden of Elawa Farm, raises essential support for the Foundation’s expanded education and food access initiatives. The Foundation will partner with Le Colonial to cater the Harvest Dinner, which will include a seasonal multicourse menu and signature cocktails, highlighting Le Colonial’s famed Vietnamese cuisine and fresh harvest from Elawa Farm. This fundraiser will also offer the local community a highly anticipated preview of Le Colonial, who plans to open a Lake Forest location in March 2022.
“When I got the call from Carla Westcott about the opportunity to cater the event this year in support of Elawa Farm and the great work they do for the community, it was an easy choice. We are honored to be part of such a great Lake Forest event to help maintain this very special farm,” said Le Colonial owner Joe King.
The 2021 Lead Sponsor for the Harvest Dinner is Packaging Corporation of America. Featured sponsors include Lake Forest Bank & Trust, Northwestern Medicine, Knauz Auto Group, Manfredini Landscaping & Design, and Sunset Foods.
Tickets for the Harvest Dinner can be purchased at elawafarm.org.
