The Business Of Beauty

“Healthy skin comes first,” says Dr. Tina Venetos, founder of Northshore Dermatology and in private practice since 1996.
With a flagship location in Lake Bluff, spanning over 5,000 square feet, along with locations in Wilmette and Libertyville, Dr. Venetos stays busy. So busy, in fact, that all three locations have extended their hours, now including Saturday appointments.
In addition to new hours, Dr. Venetos and her team are excited to offer two new services exclusive to them in the area: The Perk—a brand new add-on system to the HydraFacial MD that focuses on fine lines around the eyes and mouth, making lips look fuller and more hydrated—and Allumera—a booster that magnifies the results of photofacial treatments. “I love using things that work synergistically,” she says. “I encourage the use of anti-aging products to enhance your filler, Botox, and cosmetic procedures.
Other popular treatments include SkinPen microneedling to promote collagen production for a fresher look; “Lift and Lose” contouring, employing the combination of filler and Kybella to give the face a more sculpted appearance; miraDry for the treatment of underarm sweating; and PicoSure, the best tattoo removal laser out there.
For women in their 20s, she says: “Exercise, eat healthy, moisturize, don’t smoke, and use sunscreen. If you have a tendency towards crow’s feet, for example, a little preventive Botox can help from those lines getting worse. The key is keeping it natural.” When you hit your 30s, a photofacial will be pivotal in erasing sun damage along with monthly HydraFacials to leave you glowing and refreshed—with zero downtime.
“After having children,” she says, “we specialize in mommy makeovers, including ThermiVa—vaginal rejuvenation for whole body health. In your 40s, CoolSculpting® is also great to eliminate unwanted fat, and Ultherapy® for tightening the skin of the face and body without downtime. Moving into your 50s and beyond, the use of long-lasting fillers like Bellafill® and Sculptra® are designed to add volume, lift the upper face, and contour the lower face.”
More and more, Dr. Venetos is seeing more male clients across her three North Shore locations. “When women think about aging, we think about wrinkles. Men think about hair loss,” she shares. “For that, we offer NeoGraft hair transplantation, which is scarless and has no downtime—and it gives the best results.” She says men are also seeking out Botox, filler, and CoolSculpting® services.
With the summer months approaching, and May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Venetos provided some recommendations on protecting ourselves: “Early detection is key. I can’t stress enough the importance of yearly skin checks.” What about sunscreen? “Look for both UVA and UVB protection and for it to be water resistant. Being sure to apply 30 minutes before going outside—and reapplying every two hours thereafter—is more important than the SPF number on the bottle.”
To keep sun damage at bay, she swears by Elta MD’s line featuring transparent zinc oxide and Senté Pollution Shield, which also protects against free radicals that break down our collagen.
A regular golfer (a passion she shares with her three children), Dr. Venetos is diligent about sun protection when she hits the course at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest and on her yearly travels to Greece. A North Shore resident for the past 23 years, she reveals, “If I could do it all over again, I’d do it the same exact way. I love my patients, I love what I do.”
