The Art of Home Design
By Elaine Doremus

Why you love what you do? Every new project is like starting a new art project with a blank canvas. I love getting inspired by many different elements, including a piece of furniture or art that acts as the muse for the space.
What sets you apart from your competition? I prioritize listening to my clients to ensure their living spaces reflect their lifestyles.
Best thing about 2021 was? Despite the pandemic, I have really loved close family time, and I have been fortunate to work as an Allied Member of ASID throughout this tumultuous time.
Past trends you’d like to see return? Color, color, color!
Trends on the horizon? I see more natural materials trending with an eye toward simplicity and clean lines.
Best advice you’ve given? Design is very personal. Don’t be swayed by what’s popular at the moment. Trends fade and the space you live in should feel like a sanctuary that you always want to come home to.
Where do you draw inspiration from? Everywhere. I love to travel and see elements of design from spaces all over the world, and I draw inspiration from my clients’ own art collections and sense of style.
Most looking forward to in 2022? I am one of 35 talented interior designers selected to work on a completely restored showcase house in the city called “Adler on the Park.” I’m looking forward to working on this historic landmark and raising money for charity.
