Interior designer Susan Klimala knows how to find the “wow factor.” With two decades of experience and multiple regional and national design awards, she and her TKS Design Group are in tune with what it takes to make a space sing—from the big picture to the almost imperceptible little layers. In addition to business acumen acquired at a Fortune 500 company, her credentials include being both a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). She describes herself as a down-to-earth, problem-solver who tells it like it is, isn’t afraid to take risks, and is creatively alive—always laughing.
What elements define your style? Where do you find inspiration?
We specialize in eclectic, thoughtful, detail-oriented, personalized design. We are not afraid of color, and if there’s a rug with a detail versus a plain rug, we will likely choose the detail. As far as inspiration, many times our inspiration comes from our clients—a piece of art, a scrap of fabric or even a piece of wallpaper that they’ve been holding onto—we really do pride ourselves on creating deeply personal designs!
How do you decide which projects are a good fit for you and your firm?
The best projects for our firm are where the client has seen our website or social media, read our reviews, or spoken with someone who has used our team and is excited about working with us because of what they’ve seen and heard. When we are on the same page aesthetically, and clients give us a fair amount of creative freedom, this is typically going to result in our best work. We are a design-build firm as well, so we tend to attract clients who want a one-stop shop and appreciate our ability to provide a consistent experience all the way through the process from beginning to end.
How do you use social media in your business? What are your handles?
We love sharing on social media—new projects, design trends, team outings! See our work and follow along on Instagram @tksdesigngroup.
