Highland Park’s COURTNEY GOODWIN is a veteran and healthcare marketer by day and moonlighting entrepreneur by night. Earlier this year when the pandemic was starting to take shape, he finished reading Rich Dad Poor Dad, and it challenged him to look his fear of failure directly in the eye, push it aside, and wholly reject and replace the idea. When Goodwin substituted the concept of failure with the notion that every experience, regardless of the outcome, is a learning experience, he was ready to move forward and founded Sovereign. The company offers sensible style for the modern professional, providing travel- inspired accessories that are unique, meaningful, and reasonably priced. His first cufflink collection, the Safari Collection, is inspired by his time in South Africa and is an homage to the country’s most iconic animals. Each animal in the collection has a rich history and personifies qualities and virtues like confidence, community, prosperity, and wisdom. Here is how this entrepreneurial former Air Force Intelligence Analyst stays current.
ON HIS NIGHTSTAND
“I’m currently reading A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn. I love history and this book challenges common knowledge and communicates history from the point of view of the disadvantaged or affected, not the conquerors or privileged.”
ON HIS MOBILE
“Truthfully, I don’t engage much with social media but I try my hardest to stay connected. I really enjoy following the stock market and related news that helps me learn about new and emerging companies in the healthcare space that are developing new therapies or ways of delivering care to patients.
IN HIS EARBUDS
“It’s hard to choose just one artist, there is so much great music. I generally have deep house or lounge music playing in the background, currently Anjunadeep Volume 11 is on repeat. The genre makes me smile and instantly transports me to a New York City rooftop during the summer where I’ve had a lot of wonderful experiences.”
