There is something for everyone at Ravinia this summer from classic rock and the world-class Chicago Symphony Orchestra to some of the hottest names in the music industry. Mark your calendars and get ready for summertime entertainment at the Ravinia Festival.
June 24: Four-time Grammy nominated and two-time Billboard Music Award recipient Charlie Puth makes his Ravinia debut with a pre-concert performance by Summer League, a Bitter Jester Festival 2022 finalist, at the Carousel.
June 30 and July 1: The beloved American rock band Santana returns to Ravinia with Carlos Santana bringing the heat and the hat. Celebrate the summer with the band’s multi-genre hits.
July 14: Ravinia Chief Conductor Marin Alsop leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in an expanded version of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with soprano Janai Brugger, mezzo-soprano Ashley Dixon, tenor Paul Appleby (all alumni of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute vocal program), bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, and the Senn High School Choir, with new texts for “Ode to Joy” written by former U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith. Between movements, jazz and drumming interludes will be performed by the Adrian Dunn Singers, Ayodele Drum & Dance, and Jim Gailloreto Trio. A work by Reena Esmail, written specifically to be performed before Beethoven’s Ninth, opens this program.
July 16: Ravinia’s annual Women’s Board Gala will feature Tony and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Heather Headley and the Ravinia Lawndale Chorus with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop. This fundraising concert will benefit the festival’s Reach Teach Play music education programs.
July 21- 23: Breaking Barriers, an annual series that celebrates the diverse artists and leaders in music, focuses on women composers. Curated by Marin Alsop, the three-day festival features Pavilion concerts, roundtable discussions, a composer workshop, and more events presented in collaboration with New Music USA and The Chicago Network.
August 13 and 14: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award-winner John Legend returns to Ravinia to perform his fan favorites.
August 20: Guest conductor George Stelluto conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular, with pianist and director of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute Singers Program, Kevin Murphy. Appearances by fellows of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute close out the orchestra’s summer residency.
