As a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sean Sutphen strives to help his patients return to their active lifestyles as quickly as possible. He specializes in rapid recovery hip and knee replacements, as well as complex reconstruction surgery for the treatment of arthritis and other degenerative joint conditions of the hip and knee. Dr. Sutphen is passionate about providing the highest standard of joint replacement care and personal attention to each of his patients.
Through his extensive training, he has developed an expertise in minimally invasive joint replacement surgeries including robotic anterior approach hip replacements and robotic-assisted total knee and partial knee replacements. Because of his keen expertise in robotics and commitment to innovative treatments, he is a leader in outpatient joint replacement, allowing some patients to go home same-day and recover in the comfort of their own homes. He believes shared decision making with his patients is the best way to provide care that is individualized and compassionate, which in turn helps them achieve their goals. This includes discussing both operative and non-operative treatments, supported by the latest clinical evidence. Dr. Sutphen takes great pride in treating each patient as if they were a member of his own family. He has devoted his career to leading patients back to their favorite activities through evidence-based treatments and meticulous surgical technique.
Originally a native of Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Sutphen can now be found in the northern suburbs of Chicago, treating patients at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute in Glenview.
