Retiring In Boutique Fashion

Like hotels, senior communities are popping up everywhere. And they seem to be getting bigger and bigger every day. The staff at Eve Assisted Living (Eve) in downtown Hinsdale believes bigger isn’t always better.
“Assisted living should be charming,” says Mitch Hamblet, president of Eve. “It should be warm, sophisticated, intimate, and comfortable. Imagine a home-like setting with luxury accommodations and a relaxed mindset that puts residents and their families at ease.”
Eve opened its doors in 2014 with a commitment to seniors in Hinsdale to provide the highest level of care and support. Thanks to its near perfect location, directly across from the Village Hall and downtown, its residents have always been right in the middle of everything. Pairing new styling with an intimate, cozy setting, the 63 guest rooms and suites— ranging in size from 550 to 1,000 square feet—offer the utmost sense of privacy and luxury accommodations.
“In larger facilities, Mom or Dad can get lost in the crowd,” adds Hamblet. “When a new person moves into Eve, they are welcomed the first day by one of Eve’s resident ambassadors. By the end of the week, they’ve made 20 new friends. No one ever feels alone at Eve.”
Once you first step into Eve, the serene character feels more like a spa than a senior community. As you enter, you are promptly greeted by the concierge. Walk into the Walnut Room and you might see a competitive game of bridge or residents and care staff preparing for another visit downtown for shopping or dining. Every room in the community offers a unique experience.
“Residents are so active and loved,” says Hamblet. “Family are always around the building, enjoying a wine tasting with Mom or Dad or just stopping in for a hug on their way to work.”
Another of Eve’s many accomplishments has been creating, reconnecting, and celebrating lifelong memories. “We believe living well is a necessity and we nurture that with our residents,” says Hamblet. “To accomplish this you need staff that value people. Staff is the real secret to our success. From wellness to dining, their desire is to afford the highest level of service while cherishing each resident’s individual history.”
One might assume that given the personal attention residents receive, Eve would be at the top end of the pricing spectrum. But Hamblet says Eve remains competitive in the marketplace, in part because it doesn’t operate like a real estate company. Many retirement communities require a buy-in investment, not unlike a bond, but Eve stays focused on service.
“Forcing someone to pay a huge up-front cost is ridiculous. Providing them with the right level of care is the way to do it,” Hamblet says. “We’re not interested in the mass market but in families that want to be together. We know how to live well and keep it affordable. We know we might be small, but are one big, loving community.”
