For over three decades, the Hinsdale Central Foundation (HCF) has strengthened the spirit of the Red Devil community. What began in 1991 as a simple fundraising effort for the high school has grown into a deeply rooted, widely connected network uniting generations of students, teachers, alumni, and neighbors.
At the helm of HCF is Cameron Cimala, who sits as President.
“The Foundation is instrumental in recognizing excellence—whether through scholarship for graduating seniors, the Young Scholars program for top academic achievers, or honoring alumni through its Hall of Fame,” he says. “These initiatives don’t just celebrate achievement; they build legacy and community.”
Beyond recognizing excellence, both past and present, the HCF has also made a visible impact through projects like funding athletic facilities and transforming unused spaces into central hubs for student activities.
“The Foundation’s work reflects a deep commitment to fostering an environment where both teachers and students can thrive,” he shares.
This engine is fueled by its enduring, multi-generational connection to the school community.
“Unlike many school support organizations that focus solely on fundraising or short-term goals, HCF operates as a long-term partner in lifelong learning,” explains Cimala. “It’s powered by alumni, parents, business leaders, and community members who are personally invested in the school’s legacy and future.”
And community matters. Cimala emphasizes that the Foundation relies on this support to sustain excellence. This includes teacher grants and student enrichment programs. It also honors traditions, as alumni and residents help preserve the school’s legacy.
That shared investment continues to show up in meaningful ways. The Hall of Fame, in particular, has become both a pillar of support and a highlight of Homecoming week.
This annual event brings together Red Devils of all ages to celebrate the school’s values and honor those who’ve made a lasting impact.
“It’s more than just a formal gathering,” says Cimala. “It’s a celebration of legacy, connection, and pride.”
Bringing in students, faculty, families, and alumni together, the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who’ve made extraordinary contributions not just within their fields, but the Hinsdale Central community as well.
“For the school, it’s a moment to showcase what it means to be a Red Devil,” explains Cimala. “Students see firsthand how the values they’re learning—whether it be leadership, service, or excellence—can translate into lifelong impact. It’s also a chance for current faculty and staff to reconnect with former students and see the ripple effects of their work.”
Rooted in community, the Hall of Fame celebrates the values that make Hinsdale Central truly special—and anyone can submit a nomination. What makes a nomination stand out? A powerful story. One that not only showcases accomplishments but also brings to life the nominee’s character, their impact, and their lasting connection to the Hinsdale Central community.
“The most memorable nominations go beyond resumes and accolades,” advises Cimala. “They illustrate how the nominee exemplifies the school’s values of excellence, leadership, and service.”
Exceptional nominees demonstrate qualities such as distinction in their field, lasting impact, mentorship, advocacy, resilience, and innovation. What brings a nomination to life are the stories, whether they be personal moments, milestones, and reflections, that show how the nominee’s journey reflects the spirit of the Red Devil community. Biographical details, career highlights, and meaningful contributions also help paint a fuller, more compelling picture.
“Ultimately, the strongest nominations feel personal and purposeful,” says Cimala. “They don’t just say ‘this person is accomplished,’” he says, “they show how that person embodies the legacy of Hinsdale Central.
This year’s inductees include Bob Groseth, Dave Knecht, and Vinaya Sharma. Groseth is a nationally recognized swim coach who has led Olympians, NCAA champions, and dozens of All-Americans. Knecht is known for his dedication to historical preservation and community service, as well as his craftsmanship in building award-winning homes featured in national publications. Sharma is being honored for his civic leadership and advocacy in education.
“Together, these inductees embody the diverse ways Hinsdale Central alumni shape the world, whether through sport, design, and service,” shares Cimala. “Their stories inspire current students to dream big and give back.”
“Hinsdale Central isn’t just a school. It’s a shared story,” emphasizes Cimala. “Ultimately, it’s a powerful reminder that the Hinsdale Central experience doesn’t just end at graduation, it evolves, grows, and continues to inspire.”
