Dr. Rachel Norris’ journey began on the volleyball courts of UCLA, where she balanced the demands of being a student-athlete with her enthusiasm for art history. While chasing a career in art restoration, a life-changing trip to Cuba revealed her true calling. It wasn’t art she longed to restore—it was people. As a palliative care and mental health leader at Brain Health Restoration of Illinois, she takes a holistic, scientific, and integrated approach to patient care. “Every day, my patients show up to face their struggles headon, even when it seems as though the world is against them,” she says. “Their willingness to take the smallest steps forward, even in the midst of overwhelming darkness, speaks to a deep well of perseverance and hope.” It is this quiet, persistent strength that drives her as a physician.

Mental health disorders are reaching crisis levels, with millions of people struggling to find relief from conditions that can feel isolating and debilitating. Dr. Norris’ goal is to understand the full scope of each patient’s experience enabling her to create personalized care plans that address both the physical and psychological aspects of her patients’ conditions—ultimately leading to a better quality of life.
