SHARON PETERSON is a powerhouse in public administration, bringing 25 years of municipal experience and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. Known for her exceptional leadership, consulting, and negotiating skills, Peterson is passionate about making a difference. She’s on a mission to deliver customer-centric excellence, diving into process improvements and championing local businesses. With her dynamic communication style and team spirit, she is transforming community engagement and driving innovation.

Most rewarding part of what you do? The most rewarding part of my work is helping others, whether it is as simple as answering a question over the phone, meeting with a prospective business owner, or mentoring someone in public administration. I enjoy all of my interactions with people and take pride in adding a personal touch to each engagement.

How should women support other women? Women should uplift one another by being present—offering advice, lending an ear, and standing together in support.

How do you inspire others? I inspire others by being open, honest, and transparent. No task is beneath me. As a hands-on village administrator, I lead by example, showing my team daily what it means to be truly committed. My hope is that when they see my approach to leadership, it motivates them to bring their best and feel inspired to come to work every day.

Best piece of advice for anyone starting out? Don’t hesitate to ask questions, and never let intimidation hold you back. If there are areas you’re eager to explore, communicate your interest to your supervisor and actively seek out additional projects.

Traits you think great leaders possess? Great leaders possess the ability to lead by example, adaptability, flexibility, listening skills, and the ability to work with and get along with others.
