Pragmatic Dreamer

When KATY MACKINNON HANSELL saw an ad in 2012 for a certified Dream Builder coaching program, it spoke to her—loudly. At the time, she was a full-time mom, after having had a powerful consulting career at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). “I got to a point where I felt stuck and invisible. I realized that I wanted to figure out a way to still be a mom the way I wanted to, but I needed more.” So she took that coaching program and founded her eponymous firm, Katy Hansell Career Strategies. “I am equal parts dreamer and pragmatist,” she says, “It’s a balance my clients have come to rely on.” She started what she calls her third career as a life coach and eventually moved into career, executive, and leadership coaching, always with the goal of helping people build the life and career of their dreams. Hansell offers expert career, executive, and leadership coaching across the talent pipeline from new college graduates to established C-Suite executives, as well as corporate custom workshops and training programs. A proud graduate of Duke University and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Hansell feels honored to give back and serve as a strategic adviser on the Duke Futures Board and as a board member on the Kellogg Alumni Council.
