Created in 2002 with husband, Gary, Sound Living is Jarmila Singer’s passion project. A graduate of Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business who earned an MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, Singer brought her corporate experience into the boutique consultancy. Her Sound Living team of professionals deliver a “high touch” approach to building custom home automation solutions. “We offer our experience and consulting skills wisely and with kindness,” she says, adding that when you buy Sound Living, you get the whole team on your project.
What trends are you currently seeing in your industry, and how do you anticipate these trends evolving over the next year?
The first is streaming audio and video. Everyone has been getting rid of their cable boxes and streaming their shows using YouTube TV, Netflix, Prime, and other apps. Audio is streaming at home, too. Just add a Sonos device and now you can stream music using Pandora, Tidal, and Spotify. Other trends are an increased demand for motorized window treatments, high-speed internet with bigger bandwidth to accommodate that streaming, and AI. Home automation control systems are beginning to develop and integrate artificial intelligence to enhance your daily living.
How do you tailor your services to meet the unique needs of luxury homeowners?
We have a responsibility to be the best steward of our client’s budget dollars while balancing the need for solid technical solutions and beautiful aesthetics. Each luxury home is different. Each client is different. We accomplish this by listening and asking questions.
What’s one of the most memorable projects you’ve worked on, and what made it stand out for you and your client?
In 2017, we completed a 20,000-square-foot new construction project for a Barrington family on the shore of Lake Geneva. The home itself is stunning in design, including an indoor pool and a 3,000-square-foot guest wing. Every home automation technology available was implemented, including Lutron motorized shades, Lutron lighting control, and a custom home theater. But the best part of the project was working with the dream team of architect/designer, general contractor, and the homeowners. We are still in touch with them all and we work together on every home thereafter.
