Overcoming Pain

Most of us know what it’s like to be in pain now and again, and we also know it’s not much fun. Unfortunately for some, pain is an ongoing daily struggle. The good news for those who suffer from chronic pain is that a highly specialized field of medicine called integrative pain management was created to allow patients to seek medical help from doctors specifically trained in the area of pain management.
Northwest Suburban Pain Center, owned by partners Dr. Mohammad Ahsan and Dr. Yuriy Bukhalo, has been dedicated to the treatment of pain since 2000. The center began at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and recently opened a new office in South Barrington—offering Barrington area residents a staff of medical professionals who are “focused on the correct diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain with an emphasis on getting the patient back to a more active and productive lifestyle.”
Dr. Ahsan and Dr. Bukhalo are both fellowship-trained in Interventional Pain Management from the University of Michigan.
It may seem daunting to choose a field in which your patients are in constant pain, but Dr. Meghan Bhave, a Northwestern University-trained physician on staff at the pain center, was attracted to the field of pain management because “unfortunately a lot of people suffer from at least one bout of severe back pain or joint pain in their lifetime,” she says. “This can be very frustrating and debilitating, so I went into pain management in the hopes of supporting patients through this tough time and helping them rehabilitate.”
Specializing in treatments of the spine and joints, Northwest Suburban Pain Center offers the most technically advanced techniques for treating a broad range of painful conditions. Some of these conditions include acute and chronic neck, mid, and lower back pain; “whiplash”; spine disc pain; cancer-related pain; joint pain, including shoulders, hips, and knees; headaches; and neuropathy symptoms to name a few.
The physicians are qualified in PRP, stem cell, and regenerative medicine therapies as well. The Pain Center prides itself on always putting the patients first. Knowing most patients who call to make an appointment are in discomfort, they do their best to get patients into the clinic within 24-48 hours—with extended hours on select weekdays and Saturdays to accommodate patients’ schedules.
“Our staff’s dedication to the highest levels of education and training and the total compassion they feel for their patients is what sets us apart,” says Practice Manager Sameena Hussain. “We offer top quality care and strive to give our patients a comfortable environment in which to be treated at our state-of-the-art facilities.”
In addition to the South Barrington office, Northwest Suburban Pain Clinic has offices in Arlington Heights and Schaumburg. Its physicians are affiliated with several neighboring hospitals including Centegra, Northwest Community Hospital, Alexian Brothers, and Advocate Condell. They are also members of the American Association of Pain Management and American Board of Anesthesiology.
