Dr. Manoj K. Mehta offers a safe and convenient alternative to the busy hospital setting.
Dr. Manoj Mehta is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has devoted the past 25 years to serving North Shore patients. He opened The Endoscopy Center of the North Shore in downtown Wilmette five years ago when he moved his practice from nearby Kenilworth. Since opening his outpatient facility, Dr. Mehta has performed thousands of cases outside of a busy hospital setting. Patients can now receive important screenings in a fully accredited, state-of-the-art facility without having to face the risks and inconveniences inherent in a hospital visit.
“The truth of the matter is, hospitals are busy places with a mix of healthy and very sick patients,” Dr. Mehta explains. “Visits can run late because—behind the scenes—we are caring for emergencies, inpatient consults, and other issues. Granted, there is no better place for those sicker patients, but the average healthy patient may feel lost in the shuffle.”
Over the past year, with the coronavirus being so pervasive, the facility has become an even more valuable resource. Dr. Mehta explains, “Many people are asking, ‘I can visit the doctor without being mixed in with other people in a contained environment?’ We take care of one person at a time. There is no one in our waiting room. We do everything from start to finish and walk patients to their car. When the full staff focuses on a single patient, it is much more personalized. This has always been my philosophy, but it is especially important now when everyone is worried about infection.”
There are many other benefits to having procedures done at Dr. Mehta’s facility, which is conveniently located in downtown Wilmette. There is parking in front of the building. Nearby there are many places to eat, so people can walk in, walk out, and grab a bite. One of his favorite reviews came from a patient who noted, “it took longer to park at Northwestern than it did to have the entire procedure done at Dr. Mehta’s facility.”
“If you are healthy and just need a routine exam, we do one thing, we do it very well, and we do it efficiently—never sacrificing great attention to detail,” notes Dr. Mehta.
Regarding the rise in GI symptoms and diseases in modern society, Dr. Mehta has a unique perspective. “People have new health problems and symptoms they didn’t have years ago. We are creatures who are trapped in an environment we’ve created that is very artificial. We’re sitting in our cars all day, drinking coffee, running around under deadline, stressed, and anxious. None of that is how our bodies were designed. We internalize these discrepancies, and they often manifest as GI symptoms.”
Dr. Mehta is affiliated with North Shore University Health System; all of his notes and procedural reports appear in their electronic record system and the office accepts all major health insurance and Medicare. He is also on the teaching faculty at the University of Chicago.
Word of mouth has been vital to Dr. Mehta’s practice. “Most of my referrals are from friends and family of existing patients.” Dr. Mehta encourages you to ask your friends and family and choose the doctor that is the best fit for you.
