HOME SWEET HOME
MANDARINE, a full-service interior design firm and retail home furnishings store, opened its third location in downtown Winnetka. The new design boutique serves as a sister store to the flagship location in Glenview which opened its doors in 2014, with a second store in Darien, Connecticut opened in the fall of 2019. The new location continues the Mandarine brand theme of displaying several vignettes of various and often swapped-out wallpapers and home furnishings for clients to explore and use for inspiration in their own homes. The store carries a wide range of furniture brands of varying price points, including a signature line of upholstery made in North Carolina. An amazing array of art, case goods, lamps, pillows, tabletop accessories, and well-priced gifts are always available and the display is ever-changing in this design gem. STYLISH ROADTRIP
In 2021, Vogue launched “THE UNITED STATES OF FASHION,” a project highlighting the creativity and craft flourishing throughout the country. Exploring the innovation and entrepreneurialism that defines American fashion, Vogue went across the country from Detroit to El Paso to Indianapolis to Nashville, where the most exciting new designers are creating and designing. Celebrating these creators, artisans, and visionaries, The United States of Fashion: A New Atlas of American Style pays tribute to the democratization of American fashion and the creativity and artisanship that are no longer confined to the runways of New York and Los Angeles. Featuring a wide variety of fashion voices, the book shares how these designers define and identify with fashion today. Never-before-seen photographs and anecdotes come from fashion designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte; Jeremy Scott, and Libertine; photographers Alex Webb and June Canedo; and craftspeople Ariana Boussard-Reifel and Ataumbi Metals, to name just a few. A rich tapestry of style in America, The United States of Fashion will appeal to readers interested in fashion, design, culture, and photography. THE MAGIC FLUTE
Mozart’s miraculous blend of the human and the supernatural, comedy and romance, draws us into a world where a prince, Tamino, and a princess, Pamina, triumph over every obstacle in their search for wisdom and enlightenment and are finally united in love. THE MAGIC FLUTE contains a gloriously varied score, with the lovers’ soulful arias, the stratospheric vocal fireworks of the villainous Queen of the Night, the subterranean depths of the formidable high priest Sarastro, and the folk-like melodies of the lovable bird catcher, Papageno. Lyric Opera brings a critically acclaimed production that pays homage to the silent movies of the 1920s. The Magic Flute runs from November 3 through 27 at Lyric Opera of Chicago, lyricopera.com.
