Nadia Shamsi, owner of Sila Family Law, helps people reclaim their sense of self during some of the hardest moments in their lives. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see clients walk out of my office feeling empowered, hopeful, and ready for their next chapter,” says Shamsi. “That transformation is very meaningful to me.”
With legal expertise that ranges from complex high-asset divorces, post-decree modifications and enforcement, contested parentage cases, custody and visitation issues, grandparent visitation, maintenance and child support, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and orders of protection, Shamsi has been recognized as a Rising Star by the American Institute of Legal Advocates and named an Emerging Lawyer four years in a row. She credits her success to an ability to meet every client where they are.
“I listen more than I speak in the beginning, because I want to understand not just the facts of their case, but who they are and what matters most to them,” explains Shamsi. “I’m candid, compassionate, and fiercely protective of their goals. I want every client to know they are seen, heard, and backed by someone who genuinely cares about their outcome.”
She channels that same level of empathy into her volunteer work, aligning herself with nonprofits that support women and children in crises. “These organizations constantly remind me why I do what I do,” says Shamsi, adding that her most rewarding philanthropic role was being the fundraising co-chair of Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club a few years ago. She’s also currently serving on the Advisory Board of Hopeful Beginnings of St. Mary’s and works with other small business owners through the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce.
One of the most valuable lessons Shamsi has learned throughout her legal career is that sometimes people don’t just need an attorney—they need someone who truly hears and understands them. “Family law is deeply personal, and every client comes to me at a vulnerable crossroad in their life,” she adds. “Listening with empathy and advocating with strength can make all the difference in how someone moves forward. The law is about rules, but practicing it well is about strategy and humanity.”
