More Than Skin Deep

Dr. Sreenivas Reddy is passionate about helping patients achieve vein health—and not for the obvious cosmetic appearance of unsightly, ropy varicose veins and spider veins.
“There is a serious medical problem resulting from varicose veins too,” says Reddy from his Hinsdale clinic. “The venous, or bad blood, pools in a person’s legs, increasing the pressure and sacrificing blood flow to the legs and feet. This results in the aching pain, swelling, bruising, color changes, itching, burning, and thick skin that people experience. And it can ultimately cause more serious complications such as pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), venous ulcers, infections of the ulcers or wounds, and infections in bones.”
Far from wanting to frighten people suffering from vein issues, Dr. Reddy wants to educate people about the risks and help them by bringing his years of experience and expertise in treating veins for longevity and optimal health.
“A recent study from Harvard University found that people with varicose veins are at an increased risk of developing DVT by four times,” he adds.
Dr. Reddy is a board-certified diagnostic and interventional radiologist with 17 years experience and specialty in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. His sole focus is on treating the underlying causes of vein diseases with treatments like Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) laser surgery, ambulatory phlebectomy, endoscopic vein surgery, and injection therapies.
Fortunately, advanced procedures and Dr. Reddy’s experience make treating these issues on an outpatient basis possible—as well as much less-invasive, less expensive, and with minimal discomfort and little downtime. Often within an hour, a patient can have a laser treatment procedure and prevent years of pain and suffering.
“Fifteen to 20 years ago, we had to do invasive, painful stripping of veins,” Dr. Reddy says. Today, advanced treatment options include laser treatments and glue treatments, such as EVLT, which uses a laser to shut the main leaking and damaged veins. Another procedure called VenaSeal™ is a new, advanced procedure that very few doctors in the area perform. This treatment acts as an adhesive for veins, and it is approved for Medicare patients who have a hard time wearing compression stockings.
In fact, most of the procedures performed at Vein and Vascular Centers are covered by health insurance. Dr. Reddy acquired the practice of Chicago Legs last year, which had focused more on cosmetic procedures, with the goal to focus on much-needed clinical procedures. Many other area vein clinics only treat the cosmetic aspect of unsightly veins.
“Patients can receive true comprehensive care without a big hospital bill,” Dr. Reddy adds. Vein and Vascular performs all ultrasounds in the office, and the staff takes care of paper work and pre-surgery insurance approval.
As a Hinsdale resident, Dr. Reddy is committed to serving the community—both in his profession and his personal life. His sons attend Hinsdale Middle School and Hinsdale Central High School, and Dr. Reddy is involved in many local charity events and organizations, including The Community House.
Dr. Reddy is also excited to announce that Vein and Vascular Centers has recently expanded into a second site in Downers Grove. And, he offers free vein screenings to patients who are unsure of what their issues and needs are.
“People shouldn’t postpone,” Dr. Reddy says. “Veins aren’t just cosmetic. There is a clinical importance. The pain and swelling need to be investigated and addressed and treated. If there is a doubt, get it checked out.”
