MILES N. BEERMANN

Miles N. Beermann, who has specialized in family and divorce law for nearly 50 years, says he’s seen everything under the sun. “The one thing in my practice that never changes is being fair with opposing counsel and operating with the utmost honesty and integrity,” says Beermann, an award-winning attorney who is considered one of the pre-eminent family law specialists in Illinois. “That means truly caring about the client and their future, as well as the future of their children. Winning means doing what is in the best interest of the client and their family so that when the divorce is over, they can move on with their lives.” The first day a lawyer starts at his eponymous Beermann LLP, he shares his personal motto to “keep your eye on the prize.” “That prize is the wholeness of the family, sanctity, and peace. We need to help these families resolve their issues with the least amount of disruption,” adds Beermann, today an Equity Partner in the firm he helped found in 1958. “The kids didn’t do anything to deserve being in a family that is broken. Lawyers need to try and settle when possible so that the spouses can put their differences aside.” Prior to his career in family law, Beermann was a trial lawyer who did appellate work—once arguing a children’s rights case before the Supreme Court. “When I became someone who was doing family law, I had to focus my practice 100 percent because it’s rigorous, demanding, and doesn’t allow for distractions. I came into this specialty with empathy for my clients and their families, and that’s a value that will always be upheld at Beermann.”
