For more than two decades, Dr. Micah W. Garb has dedicated his professional life to helping women with obstetrical care and gynecological needs. Today, along with Allison Stein Lieb, APRN, at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, he offers complex gynecological care for conditions including abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, menstrual irregularities, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, and more. Northwestern Medicine’s Complex Gynecology clinic is a new specialty-focused service that focuses on creating more specialized gynecologic access to patients with more urgent needs. Dr. Garb says his approach to patient care starts with the patient’s story. “I start by listening carefully to my patient’s health issues,” he says. “I have found over the years that patients will tell you what they need, if you are careful and quiet, and let them guide you in the right way.”
Through the advanced tools at Northwestern Medicine, both Dr. Garb and Lieb are able to care for patients from adolescence to menopause, providing treatments that include medical and surgical interventions using minimally invasive surgical techniques. “The care philosophy for women must continue to be broadened to embrace the complex health needs spanning the continuum of a woman’s life stages,” says Dr. Garb. “I work to communicate in a clear and direct manner, informed by latest evidence and guidelines, to empower patients to improve their own health and wellness.”
Lieb adds, “My passion is including women of all ages—from their adolescent years and beyond—in their own health care decisions. By educating them on different conditions and management options, they are a vital part of their health care journey. I am honored to be a part of their care team and provide them resources and support along the way.”
