Max Lynch is an apprentice at Lynch Construction Corp., a multigenerational North Shore residential construction firm that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design. A history graduate and Lake Forest Preservation Foundation board member, Lynch brings a deep appreciation for architecture and preservation to every project.
What recent project best represents your style or philosophy?
We recently finished a new-build home perched overlooking the ravines in Lake Bluff. Combining details such as herringbone white oak flooring, floor-to-ceiling white oak paneling, Venetian plaster wall finishes, and timeless brass hardware with large, multi-story glass windows, dark standing-seam metal roofing, charred cedar siding, and wide spans of the home supported by structural steel, this home truly captured the intersection of modern design with traditional craftsmanship.
What materials, technologies, or processes are you excited about right now?
We have the privilege of having an in-house cabinetry and millwork shop at our office. While deeply skilled in their craft, our carpenters are excited about the new frontier of CNC machines. We are able to fabricate trim, and create custom doors and cabinet panels for a complete kitchen in a fraction of the time we used to.
If you could collaborate with any tastemaker or public figure, who would it be—and why?
One of the most enjoyable projects for me personally, being a history fan from a very young age, was the renovation we did on a 1919 David Adler–designed coach house in Lake Forest. For this complete rehabilitation, the team won an award from the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation in 2025. This coach house was remodeled for our clients into private home offices, additional garage spaces, a gardener’s apartment, and a golf simulator. I would enjoy continuing to collaborate with others who share a passion for building history.
