Liz Sherwood is principal of White Couch Design and brings six years of experience between Chicago and the North Shore to her boutique studio in Winnetka. Sherwood blends color, texture, and pattern with comfort and function, creating thoughtful, intelligent homes that are as practical as they are beautiful. She specializes in livable, layered interiors that thrive in homes with young children, balancing high style with everyday usability. Her work emphasizes cohesion, personal expression, and curated details that make spaces feel intentional and lived in.
What details instantly elevate a space?
Nothing elevates a space faster than a well-proportioned rug and beautiful window treatments. A generous rug and tailored drapery instantly add depth and warmth. They’re often the biggest investments in a room—but they make all the difference.
If you could collaborate with any tastemaker or public figure, who would it be—and why?
I have always loved and admired Ina Garten. Her cookbooks truly shaped the way I cook and entertain today. It would be wildly fun to collaborate with her on a kitchen space—I’d love to give her test kitchen the full White Couch Design treatment.
What recent project best represents your style or philosophy?
We’re currently working on a 1920s Georgian on Sheridan Road in Evanston that really reflects our philosophy. A grasscloth mural anchors the entry and stair, and we’ve pulled its palette throughout the home—not literally, but through lacquered finishes, rugs, artwork, tile and stone, and so many gorgeous, patterned fabrics. We love isolating a strong color story and letting it echo in different textures and forms, so a house feels cohesive, layered, and collected over time.
