WGN anchor, two-time cancer survivor, wife, mother of four, avid fundraiser, medical reporter, and science enthusiast DINA BAIR is on a mission to create awareness and raise funds for Robert H. Lurie Cancer Survivorship Institute. In 2020, lung cancer struck her beloved father, John Short. A once devoted tennis player, Short suffered devastating side effects from his chemotherapy treatments. Doctors lost sight of taking care of the whole person in fighting his disease. In her father’s name, the Survivorship Institute is Bair’s new mission with the goal of raising funds for a program that enhances a patient’s life beyond cancer. “The Body Keeps Score. It is a book about healing from trauma. My husband and I just completed our courses and got our license to become Illinois foster parents. I want to be able to help a child deal with the incredible pain and trauma they may have experienced. I know education is the key to facilitating recovery.”

“I am following every major medical institution online and the quest for knowledge of COVID-19. When the pandemic began, we stopped our WGN sports show and they asked me to report a nightly program on the pandemic. Sports has thankfully returned as we begin to get back to some semblance of normal. But in my thirst for information, I have continued to follow, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Harvard, The Association of Pulmonary & Critical Care just to name a few.”
