Mark Speers and the team at King’s Landscape Design have one goal in mind while working with their clients— bringing a homeowner’s outdoor living dreams to life. For the past decade, Speers has spent his time working closely with clients to design around their unique needs. His degree in Landscape Architecture from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, coupled with stellar installation crews, make King’s Landscape Design the premier team for any outdoor living project.
What elements define your style? Where do you find inspiration?
I lean towards a contemporary design style with a focus on balance, simplicity, and clean lines. However, every project requires its own distinctive design identity that correlates to the homeowner and the home itself.
How do you include the client in your creative process?
Every project begins with an on-site consultation with our clients. Together, we review the property, inspiration photos, project examples, budget, and the client’s wish list in order to come up with a collective vision. We then create a strategy to refine the concepts to best meet the client’s needs. We are in constant communication from start to finish via email, phone, text, and in-person meetings to ensure that we have fully captured our client’s dream.
What are some surprising elements you’ve incorporated?
Whether it be an open-roofed pergola, or a completely roofed shade structure, there has been an increased interest in incorporating some form of shade and protection from the elements to extend the seasons and add functionality to the outdoor living space. Recently, we have been incorporating aluminum louvered roof structures into our projects. The louvered roofs are motorized, allowing you to open the roof on a beautiful day, or close the roof when the sun is overbearing or the threat of rain is present. With the customizable options of heaters, ceiling fans, and lighting, these structures provide the perfect refuge for any outdoor living space.
