After a cancer diagnosis, surgery can be an important part of your treatment. Dr. John Hyngstrom specializes in surgery for two complex types of cancers: melanomas (a type of skin cancer) and soft tissue sarcomas.
These less common cancers occur in different areas of the body and can involve many different medical specialties. In addition to radiation oncologists and medical oncologists, Dr. Hyngstrom works with orthopedic, plastic, and head and neck surgeons.
“I appreciate my outstanding partners in patient care, especially when we see challenging, recurrent cases,” Dr. Hyngstrom says. “RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center has excellent providers that are top-of-the-line at collaborating across medical disciplines.”
From “tumor boards” (meetings with multiple surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists to discuss how to treat each patient) to preparing for surgery to lining up follow-up care, Dr. Hyngstrom and the team at RUSH MD Anderson are equipped to manage sarcomas and melanomas.
“We prioritize finding and delivering the best surgery or other treatment that meets the needs and goals of each individual patient,” he says. “With recent treatment advances and ongoing clinical trials, we are helping more people survive their cancer diagnosis and maximize their quality of life, in some cases living longer and better than they could have 10 or 20 years ago.”
RUSH MD Anderson at Rush Lisle is located at 2455 Corporate W. Drive in Lisle, 312-CANCER-1, rush.edu/lisle.
