JOHN BOURJAILY says a defining moment in his journey to becoming a real estate professional came at age 48, just as his daughters were starting college. “I decided to take a huge leap of faith and leave my family advertising business after 26 years,” says the @properties Christie’s International Real Estate broker, now 10 years into his real estate career. “It was the scariest and smartest decision of my life.” A Western Springs native, Bourjaily’s family includes daughters Caroline, Katie, and Anna, and son-in-law Rob. He and his wife Jennifer are empty nesters and have lived in Hinsdale for nearly 30 years. “On any given day you might see me jogging or biking through town, unless it’s during a Cubs game, in which case you’ll likely find me in front of the television,” says Bourjaily, who prides himself on being a passionate, driven, and entrepreneurial-minded real estate professional. An annual multi-million dollar producer, he has built an exemplary track record utilizing sound judgment, sales expertise, and business acumen, practicing “a relationship-oriented approach to all forms of client management with a continual emphasis on listening and learning.”
WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR OR ROLE MODEL IN YOUR LIFE?
Without question, my Dad. He taught me the importance of gaining the respect of my peers, employees, and clients. He was also the most nonjudgmental person I’ve ever known.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS?
I work harder now than I ever have in my life but I absolutely love what I do. Find something you love and immerse yourself in it. Before you know it, you will own it!
WHAT’S A PIECE OF WISDOM YOU LIVE BY?
In life, it’s not what happens to you but how you react to it.
