Invaluable Expertise

Emily Sachs Wong is one of Chicago’s top luxury real estate brokers, something achieved through immersing herself in the business 24/7 for 20 years. She’s an expert in her field, and especially in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, where she’s spent most of her career.
“When you start at a young age and have been doing this every day for decades, you become an expert,” Wong says.
She says when it comes to real estate, experience does matter, and those who do it the most and the longest are the best. This is important for clients.
“It’s really intrinsic in people’s choices, because you want to get the most money for your house, or the best property for the best price,” she says. “Working with someone who’s an expert will get you that.”
Though before working in real estate she was in the catering business, Wong has been around the industry for as long as she can remember. It runs in her family. Her father was a developer in Northwest Indiana, and her parents set up model apartments and invested in real estate her whole life. She got into the business 20 years ago, and says her previous work in catering influenced her work ethic and customer service skills, two crucial elements in being a successful real estate agent. Today, she stands out for her expertise in Lincoln Park, followed closely by the Gold Coast and Bucktown.
“I focused all of my energy and efforts on getting to know as much as possible about these areas,” she says. “I’ve lived in these areas and my office is in Lincoln Park, so I have made it my business to know everything anyone could need or ask for here.”
This is really helpful for clients who are new to the city or the neighborhood, as they can look to Wong as more than a real estate agent, but also someone who they can trust to tell them about schools, safety, where to run errands, local restaurants, neighborhood rules, and more. In Chicago, each neighborhood is full of micro-neighborhoods, and Wong can help choose the area that’s perfect for each client’s lifestyle. Of course, it’s most beneficial because Wong knows how the area’s real estate works, and can help clients determine how much to offer, or whether they’re listing a property at the right price. She knows what will resell, and what type of people are buying in the neighborhood.
“I have been selling real estate for so long in my specific neighborhoods that I am able to better negotiate on behalf of my clients, and better know the inventory,” she says.
This doesn’t mean that she never branches out, but the city connection always remains important. People frequently ask her to work on North Shore because they want the city connection, and in these cases she co-lists with someone who’s an expert there.
“I strongly believe that expertise is important when it comes to real estate,” she says, “and it’s proven true for me and my clients over the years.”
