In With The New

“There are not a whole lot of architects out there who lead the trends in the area as we do” says Bruce George, President and CEO of Charles Vincent George Architects, and son of founder Charles Vincent George, who started the firm in 1962. CVG provides premier professional services of architecture, interior design, and land planning. One such trend is the move toward a more contemporary and modern aesthetic. “People are interested in simplifying and streamlining interiors,” he explains. “We strive to find a good match of traditional shapes and forms done in a bit more modern and clean version.” He’s referring to aspects of homes such as wood moldings, material choices, and the stylistic design of kitchens, fireplaces, and other areas. “Most clients in the market want some traditional forms, but they are not happy with heavy moldings and treatments.” This same principle applies to the outside of homes as well. To accomplish such design updates, the experienced team of 16 at CVG offers the resources and expertise to help their clients transform existing homes. This is a much more affordable option than new construction, and the results can be quite seamless. “We provide a fuller range of services than most residential architects,” says George. “Our commercial experience allows us to create one comprehensive vision that is consistent throughout both the interior and exterior of a home. Our approach also helps clients avoid multiple design teams, who can often butt heads.” Some examples of the types of things CVG does to accomplish a modern update in a more traditional home include changing millwork and moldings, replacing older heavily detailed or carved fireplace surrounds with new modern designs, replacing of outdated wood flooring with character grain woods in more unique color tones, and changing out the heavier warm tone paint colors of the late 90s and early 2000s with more monochromatic shades of gray, white, and black. “I take personal satisfaction in the fact that I more than doubled my father’s company in size,” says George. It’s no surprise that CVG has been satisfying discerning homeowner’s needs for 55 years and counting.
