KRISTI SMITH, owner of Sweet William women’s clothing boutique credits the former owner as her role model. “Marlene Burton is one of the most elegant, stylish, smart, and loved females that I know,” says Smith. “She taught me how to listen to each individual customer and to keep them in mind when choosing the fashion for the season. It’s something I strive for every day.” But Smith has plenty of experience and training of her own. After studying fashion merchandising at University of North Texas, she spent many years in the luxury retail arena, including ten years working at Sweet William, learning the business inside and out before deciding to purchase the store 7 years ago. “Our team at Sweet William is like family to me, and I think the longevity of employees that we maintain reflects the kind of culture we strive for,” says Smith. “Our customers expect a lifestyle brand from us, an environment where they feel welcomed the instant they walk in, and feel confident when they leave by keeping them in the latest up-to-date fashions while still expressing who they are.” No matter what the day, you’ll find Smith dressed for success. “I love a good statement piece whether it is a bold blazer, a killer shoe, or a knockout piece of jewelry. Being styled top to bottom not only sets your mood for the day, but it feels empowering and expresses to others who you are. It truly is retail therapy.”
