From her beginnings at the Royal Canadian Ballet School to making waves on global dance stages, SUSAN SANTEFORT has crafted an illustrious career on the dance floor. A pioneer in tap, jazz, and theatre, she founded Susan’s School of Dance where she seamlessly wove artistry with education. Crowned Mrs. Illinois in 1993, Santefort’s evolution from a Canadian ballerina to a vibrant dance educator and dedicated volunteer showcases her boundless passion and flair.

Most rewarding part of what you do? The most rewarding part of my work is witnessing the impact of our efforts. My more than 30 years with the Oak Brook Chapter of the Auxiliary of the Infant Welfare Society, collaborating with our “Power Women” has led to raising $100,000 to $200,000 annually through our “Mistletoe Medley” event. This funding has expanded vital medical, dental, and child development services. Additionally, as a board member at Salt Creek Ballet, seeing our timeless rendition of The Nutcracker bring dance to the community and inspire future performers is truly fulfilling.

Definition of success? Seeing my daughters thrive in their volunteer and charity endeavors is my definition of success. Being able to channel the benefits of my success into meaningful contributions for others, while cherishing my faith, my 52-year marriage, and the joy of being a grandmother many times over, brings me unparalleled fulfillment. Greatest risk you’ve taken as a professional? I always wanted to share my passion for the performing arts through teaching or volunteering. I took the risk of starting my dance school, which resulted in a great career getting hundreds of children started in dance and many unique experiences, including my performing the “Ballerina” in the opening act of rock band Styx, dancing to Clair de Lune by Debussy played on keyboard by Dennis DeYoung.
