Going The Distance

It’s no wonder the quote about strong women resonates with SARAH ELDER LYONS, a senior real estate broker with Compass in Winnetka. She credits her mother, two sisters, and three daughters—Elizabeth, Gabrielle, and Alexandra as examples of strong women that “never give up” and who all love and support her daily in life and career. She has also been inspired by all the strong women she has worked with, side-by-side, on the Auxiliary of the Women’s Board of Rush University Medical Center Board for the past 16 years. After many wonderful years of volunteering for numerous organizations, Lyons looked at the PTA volunteer sheet, realized she had done most of the jobs, and decided it was time to pivot. With her experience in relationship building and problem solving, and the belief that “God has a plan,” she took the entrepreneurial leap into real estate 16 years ago. A multiple marathon runner herself, Lyons equates finding or selling a home to a marathon. “It’s a journey that requires perseverance, patience, and hard work to find the best home for your family,” she says. Two of her favorite songs are “Prove It” and “Go Girl,” written by her country musician daughter Elizabeth, with lyrics that speak to Lyons: “You go girl, get on down the road girl, it’s a big old world and it ain’t gonna stop!” A client says of Lyons: “Sarah is an amazing friend, advocate, and true problem solver with a positive, caring approach while still being professional.”
