Casselyn Tertell never second-guessed her decision to become a Realtor. More than 17 years later, the University of Iowa graduate still prides herself on making her Compass clients feel like a top priority, both during and after their transactions. Tertell has earned an impressive list of certifications and achievements in the industry since beginning her career—including the 2014 National Association of Realtors® 30 Under 30 award, an honor only given to 30 agents in the country. In 2015, she started The Signature Homes Group, a team of like-minded agents that help her assist clients with all their buying and selling needs. She and husband Brad have two sons and make their home in the western Suburbs.

What would you say is your key to success in this competitive market?
Remaining consistent. I always stay on top of the market and do not treat this career as a part-time job.

What do you consider the biggest challenge in the local real estate market today, and how are you addressing it?
Inventory. Buyers are looking for homes, but may not be able to afford their dream home with the higher interest rates and lack of available properties. I have written to owners of homes that are not listed to see if they would consider selling and have come up with other creative ways to help my clients obtain the home they’re seeking in this very competitive environment. I have also educated my sellers on the state of the market to ensure they are open to reviewing all offers and make the best choice.

How do you ensure that your personal brand stands out in such a crowded and competitive real estate space?
I’m consistent with my message and go above and beyond for my clients, always. I’ve also had the honor of getting referrals from past clients who speak highly of my abilities.

The luxury market has its own dynamics. How do you tailor your approach when working with high-net-worth individuals or luxury properties?
The listing process is different for a luxury listing, but the message is always the same. Showcase the unique aspects of the home—whether it’s through professional photos, videography, marketing, or staging. The same is true for helping high-net-worth clientele find their ideal home. I listen for what they are looking for and do my best to help them find it.
