Dr. Gene Chiao and Dr. Phillip Y. Chung of Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health bring a significant level of experience to Chicago’s Northern Suburbs. Their practice unites a team of providers who work under the same ethos: to provide individualized, comprehensive GI care to every patient.
Dr. Chiao has been caring for patients in the community for 22 years, treating gastrointestinal concerns like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acid reflux disease, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis. Gastroenterologists play a crucial role in an individual’s overall health and the need for care has been steadily on the rise. Dr. Chiao has seen an increased prevalence of IBS. He regularly manages early diagnosis and prevention of colon cancer, by performing colonoscopies for screening. He also guides his patients through diet, stress management, and exercise to mitigate their symptoms. “To understand my patient’s condition, I need to understand the entire person— only then can I develop an effective plan of care,” he shares.
Dr. Chung is a native of Chicago’s Western Suburbs with over two decades of experience in gastroenterology. He has received notable recognition for his research in cancer biology from the American Cancer Society and National Institutes of Health and has trained at some of the top institutions in the country. This training comes together to thoroughly care for each patient he encounters. “I have always aspired to make the patient the center of my professional existence,” he shares. “As a physician, I understand that I have been imparted a great deal of trust, and I work hard every day to earn that trust by being open, honest, and caring.” Dr. Chung, Dr. Chiao, and the team leverage the latest in technology and research to incorporate evidence-based, adjunctive therapies like behavioral and physical therapy. The office and procedural suites were even designed with healing in mind.
