Kim Flashner is the founder and principal designer of Kim Flashner Interior Design Group, a full-service interior design studio specializing in high-end residential and select commercial projects. Known for refined, livable luxury interiors, Flashner blends timeless architecture with modern sophistication, thoughtful functionality, and a highly personal approach. Her work is defined by meticulous detail, curated materials, and spaces that feel both elevated and effortless.
What trends or shifts are most influencing your work right now?
I’m seeing a major shift toward quiet luxury: softer palettes, tactile materials, and less visual noise. Clients are prioritizing comfort, wellness, and longevity over fleeting trends. There’s also a renewed appreciation for craftsmanship—custom millwork, natural stone, and pieces with soul.
What recent project best represents your style or philosophy?
A recent new-construction residence in Chicago perfectly reflects my philosophy: clean architectural lines softened with warm woods, layered textures, and custom details throughout. The home feels modern yet timeless—beautiful on day one and designed to evolve with the family over time.
What details instantly elevate a space?
Proportion, lighting, and restraint. Thoughtful scale, layered lighting, and edited selections make a space feel intentional. Custom details—whether it’s cabinetry, hardware, or upholstery—create a sense of quiet sophistication that can’t be replicated.
If you could collaborate with any tastemaker or public figure, who would it be—and why?
I’d love to collaborate with someone who values timeless design and thoughtful storytelling—someone who understands that luxury is about nuance, not spectacle—Pierre-Alexis Dumas, the Artistic Director of Hermès. His approach to design is rooted in heritage, restraint, and exceptional craftsmanship—values that feel increasingly rare and deeply relevant today.
