Katie Wozniak is the founder and principal of KED Interiors, a multidisciplinary design firm based in the Chicago area, known for its collaborative and highly personalized approach to bespoke interiors. KED Interiors has been featured in prominent publications including The Wall Street Journal, Design Chicago, and Business of Home.
How do you tailor your approach for clients who expect both beauty and performance?
For us, beauty without performance isn’t something we can compromise on. Our clients are building legacy homes, whether it’s a primary residence in the suburbs or a modern lake house retreat. They want sculptural lighting and honed marble, but they also want materials that withstand real life, layouts that function for entertaining, and cabinetry that feels as good in ten years as it does on install day. We begin with how they live. From there, we layer in performance-driven decisions and materials. We leverage our long-standing relationships with showrooms and trusted vendors to access materials and hand-select both the furniture and fabrics that not only fit our clients’ personal taste but are designed to look and feel good for years.
How do you ensure every project feels personal and distinctive?
We’re seeing a shift toward more personal choices. Clients are less interested in what is trending and more focused on how they want their home to feel. No two KED homes feel the same, because no two clients live the same way. Before we ever talk about finishes, we talk about lifestyle. From there, we build a design narrative around those answers. Our process is structured, but the outcome is one of a kind. Our role is to guide that clarity and refine it into something elevated, layered, and enduring.
