There’s truth to the statement that making friends as an adult can be difficult. Many women in the area defy these odds by developing deep, lasting friendships in Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club (HJWC).
Over the last 75 years, HJWC has endeavored to enrich the community, the lives of its members, and their families. HJWC’s mission is to offer members a network of resources and opportunities, plus offer meaningful volunteer and philanthropic service.
HJWC has consistently been the first stop for women looking to connect with likeminded ladies and that’s certainly true for the influx of younger people moving to our towns in the past few years.
Longtime members offer guidance and insight while welcoming new ideas, which led the incoming leadership team to shake things up for Summer 2025.
“We are mixing up our event calendar this year and introducing two inaugural events to raise funds for scholarships and grants for local charities,” said incoming President Christine Gebauer.
The first event was the Ladies Who Lead luncheon at Ruth Lake Country Club.
“This event brought past, present, and future HJWC members together with other philanthropic and leadership-minded women in the community to raise money for grants,” Christine said, adding, “We created an event that allows guests to learn more about our cause and the impact of their donations, all while networking and enjoying a luncheon with friends and an expert panel discussion on women in leadership.”
The luncheon honored HJWC members and community members who have made an extraordinary impact. Tina Weller received The Legacy Award for her ongoing efforts to do as much good as possible.
“Being a part of HJWC has enriched my life in countless ways. It’s been my honor to help in big and small ways to create positive impact on worthy organizations,” Tina said.
Members and potential members are encouraged to consider what their legacy might be, philanthropy, service, education, or leadership. For members like Weller, their legacy touches each category. “I love HJWC because we are a community of like-minded friends who care about philanthropy, service, and each other. What we do enriches the lives of those we give to, which lifts up our families in the process,” she said.
Next up is the Fore Her Future: HJWC Scholarship Golf Outing in early September. “This event will be open to the public, geared toward men and women who are interested in participating in a day of shotgun style 9-hole golf to help raise money for scholarships for local young women in their senior year of high school,” Christine said.
In the 2023-2024 year, HJWC awarded $15,000 in scholarships to four local young women pursuing higher education. This day on the links is sure to continue this fine legacy while also offering the chance for exercise and laughter.
Chaired by Kelly Dykun, Michelle Souza, and Amy Lohan, this sure to sell out day is a must-attend. “This is a chance for serious golfers and duffers alike to have some fun and raise money for young women who will go on to do great things,” Liz said.
Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club is accepting new member applications for the 2025-2026 year until August 22. To join or purchase tickets to Fore Her Future, visit hjwc.us.
